Go Home Microsoft Your Drunk

img_0339.png

Last week Microsoft announced all the versions of windows. Their are 9 in total! Though I don't know why they didn't just make a 10th one just to fill things out. But at last their are 9 versions. In the day in age were other makes of OS’s have one that do everything why in hell dose Microsoft need 9 or really any more than 3 versions. They need one for consumers one for embedded devices and one for mobile.

I can see why they cant have just one OS for everything. But 9 just feels a little silly. Maybe one day they will get it. Okay I know thats not true Microsoft never learns. Thats the end of my little rant.

Opinion: Apple Watch

aplwatch-clocksimple-pr-print.jpg

So as the pre-order date comes closer for the apple watch I feel like voicing an opinion about the Apple Watch. I guess for me the Apple Watch seems out of place in my world. When I want to know what time it is I just pull out my phone if its not all ready in my hand. If I want to see who sent me a text I just pull out my phone or ask Siri. Map directions just listen to the phone or have it mounted some place. I have no need to check my wrist to see this information.

The Apple Watch to me seems like a wast of time. Not that all warbles are a wast because I do have a Jawbone up which I have been using since January and I love it and the information it gives me about my day and night. The Jawbone has a purpose it tracks my steps and even my sleep. It dose a few other side things like reminders and alarms but thats about it. This warble docent try to be everything my iPhone can already do.

I feel like in the long run specific devices will be what people adopted not watches. When was the last time you saw someone check the time on there watch? Even the people Ive seen with watches still check there phone to see what time it is. For most people a watch is just jewelry. The last time I wore a watch was in middle school and that was because my teachers would cover the clock in the there classrooms so we might pay attention to them instead of looking at the clock every 5 minutes to see if it was launch time or time to go home.

So if I don't like the Apple Watch then what warble type do I like? Well I got a answer! I want something like Google Glass. I think the reason why is ever since playing Halo when I was in elementary school Ive wanted to be able to have some kind of computer that was either part of a pair of glasses or some kind of eye implant. I want to be able to look things up or have an AI look things up for me or remind me to do something. Thats why when Google announced Glass I was way more excited about that than some watch. But of course we probably wont see anything like that for awhile thanks to technophobic people. Though I would be happy with something like Glass that docent have a camera on it.

Well Apple Watch comes out later this month and it would be foolish to think that it will be a flop. Apple is good with marketing and makes grate devices. They will probably out sell all the Google Ware devices ever made in like the first week of sales. And in this time I might be able to play with a Apple Watch and change my mind about getting one. I know when the iPad came out I felt that way, then I got to use an iPad and I got why it was so good. So I got one eventually. We will see and Im sure I will write about it when I do change my mind.

AT&T Sponsored Data Plans

A couple of days ago AT&T announced Sponsored Data plans. The idea being web sites and web services would be able to make a deal with AT&T so when a user goes to their site or use their service it will not be used against the users data usage. For example if Youtube makes a deal with AT&T then when you watch Youtube videos on your phone it wont count against your data cap.

When you first hear about this you might think this is a good idea but really this is a vary bad thing. This is a neutrality issue. Which I'll just blanket over and just say that the idea is packet on the internet should be a packet and no packet should be treated special.

So based off that this seems bad. Even the FCC thinks something isn't right here and is putting this sponsored data plan on noticed. Whether or not something comes of this is just up in the air. I just hope that Verizon and Sprint don't pick this up. I just don’t want to live in a world where I cant use Facebook cause I have Verizon and they have a exclusive deal with AT&T. That isn't how it will work for now but if this type of data plan is allowed to exist then a day my come when you have to pick a carrier by what deals they have with the cloud services that you use.

T-Mobile Uncarrier 4.0

At the time I'm writing this T-Mobile has just announced that they will pay up to $350 of your fees for leaving a contract from any of the major US carriers. Starting tomorrow according to a press release once you canceled your plan and have your final bill you can mail it or upload it to T-Mobile. Once you have done that you can trade in your current phone and they will apply that tords a credit to get a new phone.

For me I was kind of hoping that you could keep your current phone and just move to there network. I just want to get off Verizon pay a little less for my phone bill and keep my 4S. So for me it looks like I'll have to wait till my contract is up with Verizon. Most likely ill probably just go back to Cricket when the time comes and get a 5S threw them. But if you live in an area that T-mobile works well in and you are unhappy with your current network this seems like a good deal.

FaceTime With A Friend

I've had a iPod Touch 4th gen for awhile now and I never have used FaceTime. When I first got my iPod I tried to call my friend Carol cause she was the only person I knew with a iPhone that could do FaceTime, but she was never near WIFI so I never got to do it and it just went to the back of my head. Until last night when I was talking to my friend Kimberly and she had a friend over that had a iPod Touch that could do FaceTime, so she called me. Its not like I have done a done a video chat before I have used Skype and even Stickam to do video chat. But when I used FaceTime it felt different then using Skype or Stickam. It felt more personal and more natural than other video chat programs. I hate to say it but it felt almost magical, I know that is more of a Apple term but they were right about that.

I think what is that makes FaceTime so much better then other video chat programs is that it works with mobile. You and the person you are talking to are not tide to your computer or laptop so you can move around and be comfortable like you might if you were really were hanging out with that person. I know that Stickam on iOS lets you stream from the iOS device but the people in the chat cant use there cam to talk back so its just a one way thing. Skype could at some point do this and maybe even bridge the gap so you can video chat with PC users and android users macs and anything else Skype works on.

Last night was a fun night talking to Kimberly on FaceTime and her friend. It just felt nice cause I have been talking to this girl for years we went back and froth on Myspace talking, then we moved on to talking on the phone and we know what each other looks like but just seeing each other move and seeing the facial expressions just meant more. I hope I get to FaceTime with her again soon.
