Dos and Don'ts of iOS 10 Public Beta

ios10-hero.jpg

Today is the day some of us have been waiting for, the iOS 10 public beta is here. As I type this I'm sacrificing my iPad Air 2 to the beta gods. This got me thinking, other people are doing this too and some of them might be first timers. Which is fine its a public beta anyone can sign up and get the bits. So I thought it might be helpful to make a quick list of dos and don'ts when using the public beta, and a lot of these things can be used for other betas as well.

Back-Up

Before you do anything at all, even before you sign up for the public beta program do your self a favor and do a local backup to your computer. Even if you do iCloud back up do a local backup. If you need to roll back to a stable build of iOS it will make things go quicker if you have a local backup.

Play with your Apps

After you have installed the public beta bits, open some of your most used apps and mess around with them to see if they still work. Just remember this is a beta and none of the apps from the app store are optimize to run on iOS 10 so just be thankful they even open up. Also make sure your apps are all up to date. Sometimes its not an OS thing that is making them crash it could just be a bug that the developer already fixed. But if they do not and you really need the apps to work just roll back to iOS 9, that is why the first tip was to backup.

Don't bug the Devs

Maybe some of your apps don't work and it might be, because of some changes under the hood in iOS 10. Please for the love of god don't go to the app store and write bad reviews about the app and give them a 1 star. Right now the 3rd party developers can not fix any iOS 10 related problems. If you have a problem with a app that could be a iOS 10 issue file a bug report in the feedback app.

App-Store

App-Store

Feedback App

The feedback app will help not just you but also apple and 3rd party devs too. This is a public beta test so the whole point is to get feedback from users to find bugs and to suggest things you might want to see in iOS 10 or future updates to iOS 10. This is also where you can tell develops about crashy apps so they can make fixes and can have them ready when they can put iOS 10 optimized apps on the app store.

I hope these tips help when you are trying out iOS 10. Just keep in mind that this is beta software and it will be buggy so don't get too mad when things break.

Speculations for March 2016 Apple Event

Speculations for March 2016 Apple Event

img_0101.jpg

The invites have gone out for next weeks Apple event. Up until today this event was just a rumor but the invites went out for a March 21st event. But what will they be announcing? This is what I want to speculate about. iPhone SE:

First off we have to talk about iPhone. Rumor is that Apple might announce a smaller iPhone one about the size of the iPhone 5 but have the guts of the iPhone 6S. Some of us think even the iPhone 6S is too big of a screen. I still think the 4S screen was the better size but a iPhone 5 screen is pretty good too. I have big hands but I need 2 to use my iPhone a lot. While with my 5c I could pretty much use my iPhone with one hand. Well maybe my next iPhone I will be able to do that again.

iPad Mini Pro:

Back in October the iPad Pro was announced and some people liked it and some didn't. Mostly cause of the size. But most people agree that the best part of it is the Apple Pencil. Well what if you could have the power of a iPad Pro and the ability to use the Apple Pencil in a iPad mini? Well if that's what you wanted you might have won! The iPad mini pro might be a thing being announce in a few weeks.

Apple Watch 2 (1.5):

Almost a year ago the Apple Watch came out and it seems to be a success. Well we might just see the Apple Watch 2. I doubt it will be much different from the original, it will probably be faster and have longer battery life. They might have some surprises in software with watch OS 2 which is in beta right now and will be out at some point.

Watch OS 2, iOS 9.3, OSX 10.11.4, and TV OS 9.2:

This one I would put money on. I'm almost sure they will release them shortly after the event is over or later on in the week. All of these have in beta or public beta for while now and as far as the public builds for iOS they are in 6th build of it. So even if you can't afford anything that might be announced in the event you will still have something to play with that day. That's about all I can come up with. We will see in a few weeks on March 21st what they will really announce. You will be able to watch a stream of The event by Apple and many blogs will be live blogging it as well.

RedTuu... Youtube Red

RedTuu... Youtube Red

youtube-red-logo.jpg

Youtube has been bugging me and bugging me to do a youtube red trial. One night i just gave in and did it. The short hand of this is Im enjoying it. Now the longer version. I do like youtube red but I have a few issues with it. Maybe they will change these things but I doubt it.

To begin I hate the name YouTube red, I kind of get what they where going for something simple. The problem is there are plenty sick minded people like me who keep wanting to call it Red Tube. When I first saw the name I thought it was a joke or at the very least they might have changed it. Though this issue is a very little one.

My big problem with YouTube Red is its a pay wall in away. What I mean is in order to watch some content you have to pay Youtube. Youtube Red has original content like the new Pewdiepie show that is exclusive to red. So if you are not paying for Red you are not going to see it. This I take as a problem cause it sort of spits in the face of what youtube has stood for. Why should I have to pay to watch something like that? I feel like its also a spit in the face to his subscribers as well.

I would be ok if it was more of a choice, like if you don't have youtube red you just have to watch some ads and if you do pay for red you get no ads just like normal youtube videos. Some Red shows might do this but I don't know the agreements and stuff but as it stands now it looks like you pay or you don't get the see the red shows. This is my biggest problem with red but we will see how this plays out as shows come out.

Now for a little problem. Paying for Youtube Red also means you can have youtube run in the background on mobile. This is the big draw for me, but my problem with it is other apps like Twitch let me play just the audio in the background for free or on iPad they let me do picture in picture and red still docent do this. I just feel like I shouldn't have to pay $9.99 a month for something other apps do for free and a bit better. On that note I do love being able to listen to videos when Im in the shower threw my bluetooth speaker or out shoveling. I watch longer form shows like WoW Head weakly which is an hour long or more. So being able to start watching it on my Roku and then when I leave the house to be able to open YouTube on my phone to continue it but just the audio is so convenient. But I really don't feel like I should have to pay monthly for that, if they had it as a in app purchase I would pay a one time fee for it.

I guess my final thing is I just think YouTube Red is over priced. I feel like The prices should be closer to $4.99 a month.  Now as much as I don't like these things about Youtube Red what I do like is people paying for red is that some of the money goes to the youtubers that you watch. So as much as I feel like some of the things red does is wrong this is one very good thing for they do and I feel like Youtube Red needs to exist and continue to exist. i just think that you shouldn't have to pay the red tax to get the fullest out of youtube.tumblr_inline_nwy9d0k99G1qm49lz_500

Amazon Music Service

Amazon might be close to launching a music streaming service according to the New York Times. According to them it could lunch as soon as this week but with a limited number of songs. It would be part of your Amazon Prime membership.

Now for me I don't think this will replace Spotify for me, but I can see how maybe one day it just might. Going by the NYT article they don't have a lot of deals with the labs but I'm sure over time they will get the deals they want and then services like Spotify will be in trouble.

Right now Spotify has the advantage of a free tire even though you can not play song individually. This free tire will probably keep Spotify around even if Amazons streaming service gets the deals they need to have as many songs as Spotify or their competitors. Spotify can run you $9.99 a month for premium though after a year you are paying about $119.88 for premium while Amazon Prime cost $99 a Year. Though keep in mind if the new York Times article is right you wont have the selection like you do with a service like Spotify.

We will see if this happens when the service dose launch. I will take a look at it when it comes out.

E3 Day 1: Nintendo Direct

Today is the official start of E3. Nintendo started the day off with a Nintendo direct video showing off the new games coming to there Wii U and 3DS systems. They showed off a lot of what they showed off last year like super smash brothers and Hyrule Warrior. Nintendo showed off some other things as well like a new Pokemon game Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, Splatoon and Mario maker. To me the most interesting thing was the Mario Maker which is a level editor for the original Support Mario Brothers where you can make any level you want and place mobs and tubes where you want them walls whatever your hart desires.

Splatoon is a Wii U game where you can switch between a human and a squid that can swim threw its own ink. It's really weird game that I think the video dose it more justice than I can. What I will say is just like many other games Nintendo makes this is very much a kids game.

They also talked a little more about supper Smash Brothers. They are going to let you be part of the action by letting you use your Mii to battle and your Mii will be just as divers as any other character in the game. Mii's will have 3 different types and their own move sets. They showed this off on the Wii U version and I hope that you can use Mii's in the 3DS version as well.

While on the subject of Supper Smash Brothers they showed off a new object to use with your Wii U called amiibo. They are figures with a chip inside them that you can use as an advanced AI. They showed an example of how to use them in Smash Brothers where they had 2 character so fighting it out and the one of them placed a Mario amiibo on his controller and Mario showed up in the game and kicked but. In Smash Brothers amiibo can level up and have different move sets for other amiibos. They will be launching with the Wii U version of the game and they will be coming out with a 3DS adaptor so you can use them in the Hand held version. These toys will also work with other compatible games such as Mario Cart 8.

They announced a lot of other games but I thought these were the most interesting. Also the games I mention will be out this year but the Splatoon. All the other games where sometime next year. So if you have a Wii U you will have something to play soon.

E3 Day 0 UPDATED

Today kicked off the unofficial start of E3 Microsoft,EA, and bunch of others have media briefings today's. Day 0 of E3 is normally a day of press events and hyping what is to come in the next couple of days at E3. Tomorrow we will hear more about what these company's have shown off, but today is not with out any news. Microsoft started the day.

As you might think the most notable thing from Microsoft was the announcement of Halo 5. They didn't give much information about it other than a quick cinematic and little information about the plot. It seems the Chief is still morning the lost of Cortana and what his place is in the future and the past of the halo universe. It will be out sometime next year for Xbox one.

Now on the subject of Master Chiefs past they announced Halo: Master Chief Edition. This is a collection of all the current Halo games (1-4) and every multiplayer map ever released for Halo. They said they game Halo 2 content the anniversary treatment. It will have the updated graphics and music much like the Halo combat evolved. You will be able to switch between the original and the new if you choose. You will be able to pick this up this holiday season for $59.99.

e3-2014-halo-2-anniversary-cinematic---delta-halo-dd8d072133da4ef0b89bb8c617294189

The other game that caught my eye at the Xbox event was Fable Legends. They didn't say too much about this one either but what they showed was interesting. You will be teamed up with 4 characters, they seem to emissive on the questing and less on a main story line which they didn't talk about. They did say in this Fable game you can play as the villain and place mobs in the world to try and stop the heroes. They didn't give a release date for Fable Legends but they did say you could sign up for the multiplayer beta which will come out this fall.

Now on to everyone's favorite publisher EA. I will go ever it quick. My excitement is over the Sims 4 which comes out September 2nd 2014. They showed a little video about it which you can see here:

battlefield_hardline_1_wm

The other worthwhile game they talked about was Battlefield Hardline which went into closed beta today. For a limited time if you Pre order the game you will be able to play the beta on PC or PS4.

ts4_danceparty

Sony has had there conference and they announced a lot of new stuff. Like Little Big Planet 3 which will be out this November, Uncharted 4 and a white PS4. They will be adding new free to play games to the PSN Store and even bring Youtube to the platform.

[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1Rx-Bbht5E[/embed]

Nintendo will have there digital event tomorrow. Last year Nintendo had a mini E3 at Best Buys where you could play so,e of the games I person. If they do this again and the best buy near me is one that dose this I will be heading over to get a hands on.

WWDC Part 2

Today we talk about iOS 8 and all the changes going on with this version of the mobile operating system. Yesterday I talked about OS 10.10 and the changes there, you can read that here. Lets get right to it.

iOS 8:

On the surface iOS 8 docent look all that different from iOS 7, but when you dive into it iOS 8 is really a big update. Last time we got a pretty update and this time we are getting features.  One of the first things you might notice is a change with the keyboard. The key board is getting predictive text. So as you type a message at the top of the keyboard it will try and guess what you are typing and you can just touch the correct word or words that you are trying to type. Another big change to the keyboard is Apple is going to allow 3rd party keyboards like swipe keyboard.

Leading up to WWDC we herd a lot about something called Health Book which was going to be this all in one way to get all the info from your health apps into one app that you can look at. Well We didn't get Health Book, but we got Health and Health Kit. Health kit is basically the hooks that apps and devices can use to interface with Health. For example Fitbit could use Health Kit to put the information about how much you walked or how well you slept last night in to the Health app. Health is good for people who are vary into the wearable health device scene.

Photos will be getting a few new editing features. Right now in iOS 7 you have a few editing things you can do like, cropping, auto enhances, red eye removal, and filters. But in iOS 8 you will have these and more. You will be able to adjust the lighting in the photos the color, exposer highlights, and shadow. They will also be adding time laps video creation to the photos app/video camera app.

Messages is getting some much needed changes. When you are in a group text chat you can now easily silence if it is always going off or you can easily leave the conversation. You will be able to quickly see any photos that were shared in a conversation. You will be able to send a audio or video in messages by holding down the mic icon or the camera icon and just simply swipe up to send. You can even share your location with the people you are texting so you can see where they are and they can see where you are. Just like Where my friends you can set limits and even stop sharing your location when ever you want.

A new thing coming to iOS as well as OS X is iCloud Drive. I talked about this the other day when I was talking about OS X. It is suppose to be a dropbox or Google Drive replacement. So you can host any files you want right in iCloud and have access to them on any device.

Lets move on to Family Sharing. Family Share is away to share things with your family, like your music, movies, iBooks, location, Apps, calendars, videos, and photos. These are all things you can share you can also do find my iPhone on family member devices you can also have a family shared iCloud album. There is also a bit of prenatal control that goes along with this so if you have family share setup and your kid try’s to buy a app or in app purchase the parent will get a prompt asking if it is ok for the kid to make that purchase.

Spotlight the universal search in iOS is getting a bit of an upgrade. It will be able to search not just your phone but the iTunes and App Store as well. So if you want to look for an app that you don't have you can just swipe down and type in the app you are looking for and without having to open the App Store spotlight will find it. It can also search the internet to look for news or movie times and just about anything you can think of.

The last thing I want to talk about is some of the minor changes in the UI in iOS 8. In iOS 7 Apple gave us the ability to swipe up to dismiss a notification when they pop up and you are in another app. In iOS 8 you can do more than just swipe it away you can interact with it now. Say you care reading something in the Kindle app and you get a iMessage from a friend you can pull the notification down and reply back with out having to leave the Kindle app. Another change to the UI is when you double tap to bring up the app switcher you will see at the top the people you contact the most and people you have marked as favorites and have a quick way to call or text them. The last thing is mobile Safari we will be getting better tab view and a new way to view favorites and view later articles.

iOS 8 will be arable this fall and if you are a developer you can get it today. This is just what they announced for consumers they announced so much more for developer even a new coding language called Swift and lots of new API’s and kits.

WWDC Part 1

Apple announced a lot of new things at WWDC some we already knew were going to be announced others we didn’t know. I will keep this post consumer oriented. If you want to know about the new API changes or even the new coding language Apple announced today swift you can go to apples development site or you can go to the iBook store where they have released a book about Swift

OS X Yosemite:

After the normal numbers and look how grate we are sepal, the first thing they talked about was OS 10.10 Yosemite. The first thing you will notice is the new flatter UI just like iOS 7. The other thing you might notice is the redesigned icons as well. But there is plenty of things you don't see.

Have you ever been lazy like me and had your iPhone charging across the room or even in another room and then you hear it ring, and you just ignore it cause you don't feel like getting up up from your desk to go answer the call. Well I don't know about you but I have. With Yosemite you will never have that problem cause OS X will connect to your phone and show a little notification on your Mac and let you pick up the call on your Mac. They didn't show it off or mention it but it seems like you will be able to pick up the call on an iPad as well.

This hand off will work with other apps as well. If you start working on a Pages document on your iPad when you go to your Mac you will see the Pages icon to the far left of the task bar. When you click it, it will open pages right were you left off on your iPad. This also works the other way too. So you make some more changes on your Mac then maybe you leave and you need to make some more changes on your iPad you will see the pages icon on your lock screen of your iPad and all you have to do is swipe up and the document will open right in pages were you left off on your Mac. A lot of this is to make OS X and iOS aware of each other and what you are doing on these devices and make it easier to get things done.

If you are some one who has a hotspot plain from your wireless carrier you can simply connect to your iPhones hotspot with out touching your phone on your Mac or iPad. Just look for networks and your phones hotspot will just show up.

This one is kind of a enhancement to an old feature. AirDrop was introduced a few versions ago but it only worked with other Macs and they added Airdrop to iOS in iOS 7 but to only worked with iOS devices. Now Airdrop you can use Airdrop on the Mac you can Airdrop files to your iPhone or iPad and vice versa.

iCloud drive will be a new part of the Apple ecosystem. iCloud drive will be a Dropbox type system were you can store files on iCloud that will sync to all your Macs and your iOS devices. It will also let you view documents that you have created on thrived party iOS apps. This will use your iCloud storage but the good news is apple has come out with new pricing plans with 20 GB of iCloud storage starting at .99 per month.

There was a few smaller things I will go over quickly. If you like to use iMessages on your mac and iPad but wish you could reply to the text messages from your non iPhone friends well your wish has been granted. Your iPhone will pus normal text messages to your iPad and your Mac in the Messages app. Apple has flatten the all the built in apps such as Mail, Calendar, and contacts. Notification center on the Mac will also get a change with a Today tab that will support widgets. The Mail app will gets a markup tool so you can add comments and drawings to photos or PDF’s that you are sending.

So much will be changing with OS X Yosemite and it will be coming this fall. But if you are feeling brave or you have an extra iMac or MacBook and you want it sooner sometime this summer Apple will release an open beta of OS X Yosemite. According to Mac rumors it will be limited to the first million people who register. You can register at Apples beta page. This post is longer than I planed on and so I will do a part 2 tomorrow about iOS 8.

Rumor Round Up

Tomorrow is WWDC and everything will change, well maybe not right then and there but we will find out more about the changes that will be coming. We defiantly know Apple will be talking about iOS 8 and OS 10.10. We might even see some other things as well.

iOS 8:

I guess I have to start this off with something we at least know they will be talking about tomorrow iOS 8. I would guess with this update they will have minor changes and tweaks to the mobile OS with a few major features to talk about. One of those features that have been rumored is a split screen feature so you can have two apps up at once. As seen here at macRumors.

One of the other well known rumors would be Health Book. This rumor seems to be like a Passbook type app that would be a one stop shop for all your health needs. They would have some type of hook for people who make things like fitbit to hook in to Health Book and tell you about all the information that it collects about you. It might even  be able to work with blood sugar meters and you would be able to keep track of your blood sugar readings if you are diabetic. The idea would be to have any medical device could have a way to connect to your phone and give you accesses to your own medical information. MacRumors has info about this rumor as well.

The last thing I want to talk about as far as iOS 8 rumors is this live tile feature. If you have used Windows 8 or Windows Phone you might know of live tiles. The idea is to be able to see information about an app with out having to open the app. How this might work on iOS is you maybe tap and hold on the Mail app and once it starts shacking and you might get another option to make the icon bigger maybe up to 4 icon sizes bigger. Once you do that it would not only show the little red dot to say how many e-mails you have but it would also cycle through previews of the new e-mails. Once again MacRumors has info about this.

OS 10.10:

OS X we know will be talked about tomorrow at WWDC this will be OS 10.10 right now we think might be called OSX Yosemite. The major change we think will be coming in this version of the OS is a flater design. Just like the change from iOS 6 to iOS 7 we might be seeing design changes coming to OSX that will make it look similare to iOS 7 with its flatter design. I feel this will be a nice change. iMore has more about the rumor.

Hardware:

Normally WWDC is not a place were Apple announces new hardware. But there are rumors that they might talk about either a new iMac, iPhone 6 or iWatch. I really doubt that they will talk about any of these things. Hardware is normally discussed in the fall.

All of theses are rumors and you never know none of this could be announced tomorrow. They key note will be tomorrow at 10 AM PDT and you can watch it at Apples WWDC site.

iPad Problems

UPDATE 7/31/13: For some reason I can see the updates now. I don't know what changed but its working and I was able to update all the apps that needed updating.

For the last week I have not been able to update my apps on my iPad 2 cause the App Store update page just shows a blank page. I can download apps and buy apps and even browse the app store but I cant update apps. It will even show the badge on the icon showing how many apps need to be updated but I cant see them. I just wanted to go threw what I have done to try and fix this issue.

To start off I have had this issue before. I open up the app store to update apps and get this: Image

Normally if I force quit the app store and restart the iPad things go back to normal. When I did this when it showed up a week ago this fix did not work. The second thing that I tried the other was to backup my iPad and then do restore threw the iPad then I restored all my apps and settings threw iTunes. I went to the App Store after everything was done and it still wasn't working.

Today I did basically the same thing but I did the restore threw iTunes so that it would be forced to download a fresh install of iOS 6.1.3. Once again after it was done restoring my backup I went to the App Store still nothing. Then I thought when if I update the apps threw iTunes so I updated all the apps that showed up in iTunes then synced my iPad. Well now it shows I have no updates on the icon badge. But if I go to the update tab it will not tell me there are no new updates like it normally should do if their are no updates.

At this point I have done everything I can think of to get to start working again I can think of except restoring it and setting it up as a new iPad. I don't want to do that since I have 100 apps on my iPad and I don't want to go back in to each one and resign in to every app and my e-mail all that stuff. I will if I have to I might call Apple before I do that they might be able to help or at the vary least put me in the right direction.

Bigger iPad

I was watching Tech News Today on the TWiT network which is how most of the ideas for blog post come form. They talked about a rumor of bigger iPhone and iPad screens. They seemed to not like the idea of a bigger iPad but to me it made me exited.

Most companies seem to like this idea of big phones and small tablets. I have never agreed with this to me my iPhone 4S has just the right size of screen for everything I like to do with it which includes watching videos. I've never cared for the iPhone 5 bigger screen and I wish they had made a iPhone 5 that had the old screen size. I don't look at my iPhone and wish it was bigger cause I have a iPad 2 which runs iOS and is a bigger screen. I do look at my iPad and wish it was a bigger screen. I run into this thought normally when I'm doing some photo editing on my iPad or light video editing with the iOS iMovie.

I think the obvious thing would be for watching videos a bigger screen would be way better. When I'm in school I use my iPad a lot to show friends YouTube videos. I've always seen my iPad like a cheap MacBook  Air that runs iOS instead of full OSX. For me I it's all I need and if I need a real computer I remote my Mac threw my iPad. The only real times I need to be in front of my Mac is when I want to play a game like World of Warcraft or something like that or when I have to do major video editing for a project for school. That is only cause no one has made a grate video editing app for iOS and I only have 16 GB of storage of which I have only 1.1 GB free.

So what would I like to see the next generation of iPads to be like? Well I would like a bigger screen, not too big but between 11 and 12in would be perfect. I also would like them to up the storage on the devices. So instead of the cheapest iPad or iPhone coming with 16GB they start at 32GB and maybe go to 320GB. This is all wishful thinking I'm sure we will not see anything like this when they do come out with the new iOS devices. We will more likely see thinner, lighter, faster iPhones and iPads but next year maybe we will see some of these hopes happen.

Apple Wish List

Today Apple announced that their will be a WWDC in June and that tickets go on sale today. When I saw this when I woke up this morning sites were already trying to figure out what the logo could mean and blah blah blah. I started thinking about what I hope they would talk about or even announce. Though they don’t always announce hardware at WWDC but its fun to think what they could do. So I made a quick list of things I wish they would announce anytime really not just at WWDC.

MacPro:

A new MacPro is something we have been hearing about for months now and I hope they do it. They haven't done any real changes to it since 2008. I think they silently made a few changes to it a year or two ago but thing major. What could they do to modernize the Pro.

I think lots of Pros would like to see Thunderbolt come to the mac pro. It would make moving GB’s and GB’s of data from cameras and external thunderbolt drives easyer and faster then it is with Firewire. A faster Processor, faster graphics cards, maybe even the ability to have 30 40 or 60 GBs of RAM. I don’t know why you would need that much but hell its a Mac Pro so why not. The option of having SSD drives a normal hard drive or a Fusion Drive might be nice. Though it would also be nice if they could also update OSX so you could buy your own SSD and a normal hard drive, then just check a box in the settings and OSX would make it a Fusion Drive on its own.

iOS 7:

iOS 7 is something we could vary likely see at WWDC maybe not the whole thing but maybe a few fetchers they might want to show off. As a way to say this is coming and a way to get some feed back that they then wont listen to cause they are Apple and they know whats best for us. I think we may not see it working at WWDC but it would be cool if they did side by side comparisons of iOS 6.1 and 7. Most of the rumors have said that iOS 7 will be more flat and skeuomorphism will be taken out of the OS. So it would be interesting to see maybe them but up a Pic of the notes app on OS 6.1 and it running on 7. Then show it on iPad as well.

OS 10.9:

Another thing I would like to hear about and are likely to hear about at WWDC is OS 10.9. Apple has said that they were going to do yearly major release of OSX and it's been almost a year since mountain loin was announced. I don't know really what they can do to make it any better but I've seen since mountain loin came out blogs rumoring Siri coming to OSX. I for one wouldn't mind it, I use Siri just about every day. She sets my alarm at night and I tell what to remind me of for the next day. She doesn't always get what I say right the first time but that's ok no one or thing is perfect. The other thing is more iOS in our OSX that's pretty much something we know what will happen. But will it be more iOS 6 or iOS 7 and have skeuomorphism taken out of OSX and have a flatter look or will it be behind.
That's my wish list last two things are likely to be talked about but who knows if they will show anything off. As I said before WWDC tickets are on sale today.

Welcome Back

I have taken the site apart and put it back together. I gave it a simpler template then that mess I use to have. I have removed some pages and improved some pages others are still the same. I feel happy with the site over all and I hope you all will enjoy the content I will post here. I'm hoping to do a mix of writing and video content. So maybe app reviews things like that.

Log Me In for iOS

Ive been using Log Me In for a long time now to remote access my computers. I know there are better things like Go To My PC but they charge per computer to use that. Log Me In has a free version that dose what I need it to do effectively. Though I will admit for awhile I used Windows Live Mesh for awhile cause I felt it was a little bit more simpler to setup and all my computers were running Windows 7. But when I got my Mac I went back to Log Me In since Live Mesh didn't work on OS X well the remote access part of it doesn't work.

For a while the only way you could use Log Me In was threw a $30 app Log Me In ignition and you had to have a Log Me In Pro account. But last month they came out with a free version for mobile that works with the Log Me In free account. I've been using it almost everyday since I got it and for me it has come in use for all out laziness. But it has plenty of useful functions like getting school work done from your iPad or getting files from your home computer when your out and about.

The app it's self if is pretty simple to use just log in with your user name and password clip_image002and all your computers that you have on your account will show up.

You can also send files to your iPad using log me in but I think it might be a Pro features clip_image004because I never could get it to work. But it is there.

The only real problem I have with this app is when you are remote accessing the computer they give you a on screen mouse and the buttons on it are a little too small. I end up hitting the right button when I mean to hit left or vice versa.

Other then that there really isn't much wrong with this app and is a nice app to have for productivity and even if you don't think it's something you will use everyday you might clip_image006want to have just in case you ever for get something on your computer. Get something like drop box and you won't have to worry about leavening that paper for school at home again.

Steve Jobs Resigns form Apple

Who says August is a bad month for news we had Google buying Motorola Mobility last week and then the bomb shell of HP getting out of the hard ware business and PC business. So what else could happen? Well not be out done by Google and HP, Apple’s CEO Steve Job has decided to leave his post as CEO.

Letter from Steve Jobs

I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve

So not to get people confused Steve Jobs is not leaving Apple he just will not be CEO he will be the head of the Board for Apple now. I will try to keep you to date as I can but I don’t think there is much more to say the Unofficial Apple Web Blog has a good post on this as well if you want to check that out.

How To Turn Off Facebook Facial Recognition

The other day our friends at Facebook turned on a new feature for all of us. When you upload a photo to Facebook it looks to see if their are other people in the photo that you might want to tag in the photo. Now you don’t have to tag your friends in photos yourself. Well I can see how some people might not want to be tagged automatically in other peoples photos. So here is how you turn it off so you are not tagged in other peoples photos automatically.

Step 1:

Go to your Facebook page and click the account tab and go down to privacy settings.

Step 2:

Once you are at the privacy settings page click customize settings.

Step 3:

Once you are the customize settings page go down to ware it says “Things Others Share” and click on the edit settings button for “Suggest photos of me to friends”.

Step 4:

When the prompted comes up just click disable and okay and you will have turned this privacy concern off.

Microsoft Buying Skype

Last night I saw a report form Mashable saying that Microsoft was considering buying Skype. I woke up this morning and looked at Facebook and a saw a official post from Skype on their blog that said they will sell Skype to Microsoft for $8.5 billon. This kind of came to a shock to me this morning. Not that Microsoft bought Skype but that they didn’t drag this out and say the rumors were not true. Though if Microsoft was offering me $8.5 Billon I wouldn’t be screwing around either.

The reaction I have seen at least on Facebook hasn’t been all that good. I have manly seen people seeing this is not a good thing for Skype. I mostly agree with these people. My main concern with Microsoft buying Skype is Microsoft is just too big. There are many stories of good ideas being killed cause it conflicts with something else that Microsoft already dose. In this case that could be Windows Live Messenger. My greatest fear right now is that Skype might just get meshed in with windows live messenger. I think this would bad thing for many people and business.

Now this could be a good thing for Microsoft. Skype is in a lot of different places more places then Windows Live Messenger is, and they could use this to get on other platforms. But I think they can do hundred and one different things but what will end up happening is most of these idea’s will get caught in the politics internally at Microsoft and we will only see a fraction of what Skype could be with Microsoft backing them.
